Recycling Plastic into New Products

Lately, I have really come to have a new found view on plastic. If we can recall the water bottle fiasco, I have reduced our use of plastic water bottles. However, since finding out that our particular county's recycling program does not take cardboard, I have had to re-evaluate the products I purchase. I was about ill when I had one weeks worth of garbage consist of one waste bag and then a half a can of cardboard (and of course a bin of recycling). All of the cardboard bound for the dump. Well, at least I buy organic products made by earth-friendly companies who use recyclable and/or compostable board for their products. Maybe it has a chance to deteriorate.

So... where am I going? I have noticed that good products can be made from recycled water bottles. The kid's new lunch box for instance...

Visiting reusablebags.com was a pleasurable experience. I chose the new lunch box, made of 100% PET recycled plastic. Nice burnt orange color. The quality is awesome and the product is strong. Plus, all in all... it was $15 door to door. Can't beat that! Note: We had to retire the vinyl lunch box with cartoons on it because in looking for a bag for myself, I determined that this type of lunch box could leach lead and dammit... I put good food in there... If anyone is going to kill that kid it is going to be me when we don't listen :)
