Gas Prices are going down... OH NO!

Yes, gas prices are on their way down... and I see this as a massive problem. Yes, there are some families who rely on their vehicles and desperately need to have some help at the gas pump. But we have seen such a huge change in demand. Driving habits have changed, people are opting to find more fuel efficient ways to live their lives. I fear that if we allow prices to go down, people will start believing that we are ok and follow those who think "Drill Baby Drill" is the way to go.

There is no doubt in my mind that we need to seek energy independence. There is no doubt in my mind that this is something that needs to be taken on by the US Government. There is no doubt in my mind that left up to the glutenous American people, they will be back in their hummers in no time flat.

The other day, our neighbors stopped us on the road. We had loaded up our two bags of groceries and were hoofing it back to the house. Up rolls their suburban. They are the nicest people, don't get me wrong... I am only pointing out differences. Asking us where we were coming from, they said that is where they are going, but they would never consider walking it. (It is probably 200 yards to the store).

I do see how fuel prices being high effects the world as a whole. We deal with a lot of freight and shipping at work. However, the gas prices for my daily life don't affect us at all. I drive a caddy. It costs us $70 A MONTH to fill it up. We live close to work. We live close to the store. We live close to everything. We deliberately choose after school activities for the kids within a 3 mile radius.

I have also noticed in conversations that a lot of other people have changed their ways. But now that gas is cheap, they have put the bikes back in the garage and are back in the truck (so says one person).

So when you see the gas prices going down... be very very worried. Again, Americans cannot stand to allow glutony control us any longer. For whatever your reason, whether it is for independence from the Middle East or for environmental reasons... remember to save your gas. Use it sparingly. Keep encouraging your government to find alternative sources of fuel or as Mr. Obama gently reminds us, we will be right were we are now, in 20 years.
