Today has been a pretty good day. After a pretty good breakfast, the Squiz and I headed downtown to the Farmer's Market. There, we found some excellent deals on this weeks worth of organic and locally grown veggies and fruits, some organic, unbleached pastas in various flavors, and a way cool leather cuff made by a fellow hippie-chick.
So the Farmer's Market is a definite winner. $15 in fruit and veggies that would have cost at least double that in the actual shopping center. And... to help a local farmer? Hell yes!
The pineapples in the backyard were also tended to. The banana trees that are having some issues after the recently frost were chopped and made into logs for the next backyard bonfire. The strawberry plants... I have one that is fluffy and green, produces fruit and then it appears to all dry up. The other plant... it just doesn't want to do anything. The pepper plants are coming along nicely.
I did investigate the water flavoring thing. Honestly, I have only found one that flavors the water clear. I am not quite sure what to do about this situation. I would really like to solve two problems at once and find a frig for the kitchen that has a purifier for ice cubes and for water. (The ice maker broke about 6 months ago and well... it's on the honey-do list with lots of other things.)
So, my husband has done something fantastic today. He found a mulch that is made of recycled tires. Very cool I thought. We are getting ready to hard scape some of the back yard as we have almost an acre and the sun just doesn't allow grass. Well... after some research, it was too good to be true. The old tire shreds actually leach bad things into the ground. So... considering this is going to be in areas where my garden, child and dog are growing. This will not work. Nice try though.

With so many projects going on, this place is going to be amazing. The first step to the backyard is going to be enlarging my growing bed. Once that is in place, he can rototill that sandy bog all he wants. :)
